A high school track coach accused of seducing students and possibly getting one pregnant also infected at least two of the girls with herpes and gonorrhea, officials said Thursday.
Marcus Grocesley, a 21-year-old volunteer coach for Joliet Township High School until his arrest in March, was indicted Wednesday on 11 counts of criminal sexual assault and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. Besides losing his unpaid coaching position, Grocesley has been in jail on $500,000 bond since his arrest. The Joliet Central High School graduate drew the law's attention after a student reportedly ratted him out to a school counselor. Grocesley first was charged with having consensual sex with two teenage girls, one a student at Central and the other from Joliet West, both of whom were student-athletes, police said. Within days of this disclosure, the floodgates opened on Grocesley. In short order, detectives were investigating reports that the man had sex with as many as eight more teens -- in his car at such places as Bicentennial Park and Pilcher Park. Police at this time also revealed that Grocesley was suspected of getting at least one of these underage girls pregnant. The paternity of the baby will not be known for certain until the child is born, police said. The aggravated criminal sexual abuse charges stem from Grocesley's infliction of "great bodily harm" upon a pair of the teens by infecting them with sexually transmitted diseases, according to the statement. A police source said these diseases are herpes and gonorrhea. | |||||||
